Steam is now allowing all games

Recommended Posts

Finally a step in the right direction

In what can be seen as a move in rectifying the recent debacle regarding Steam's removal of games with "adult" content, Steam has now decided to allow anything that is not illegal or "trolling" onto their store.

Among other things, this should make it easier for visual novels to be put on the store and will hopefully serve as an impetus for future localizations. This should have a positive impact on most all the localization companies including Nekonyan. What do you all think of this new move?

Isn't it just steam saying "we allow everything we don't forbid"? I fear it's just preparation for games to get forbidden by moral faggotry of the month. Opening the floodgates of sh*tstorm for twisted judegement on a case by case base.

But the only thing I trust steam is me commiting murder if I'd ever meet them in a moonlit alley.

Um, could you watch the homophobic language?

I don't really know what morals have to do with homophobic language, but if it offended you, sorry. It was meant more in the lines of "ego-shooters turning people into terrorists" and "anime games turn people into pedphiles", rapelay-scandal and so on. Again, sorry if someone felt attacked.

"Faggot" is a homophobic slur. Moral douchebaggery probably would have been a better way to phrase it.

I think in context the word was clearly not meant to denigrate homosexuals and thus should be understood as a generic insult, but nonetheless. Steam's official word is rather unclear. It could be taken to mean they're going to allow "everything." It could also be understood that they will continue enforcing their existing guidelines, as they didn't say they were abandoning their current rules. They also said more information would be incoming, when and if they ever get around to actually improving their discovery/filter tools. I don't think anything is changing as of present. If they do later, outright porn is probably still off the table anyway because "muh payment processors" (if not just to avoid social backlash from self-righteous moral guardians).

Hopefully it means no lasting damage to Steam's overall relationship with the growing visual novel community but for MangaGamer in particular it might be too little, too late.
