  1. As you all know I've made a whole bunch of H-scene related discussion topics in the past. However, one thing I've always interested about but never asked for some reason is how often do you guys personally use the H-scene playback in the Extra Menu? I know many like to look at the CGs so I'm curious about one of the other main parts of the Extra menu that's in basically every eroge these days. If you don't want to share your personal answer, you can vote anonymously in this strawpoll here: https://www.strawpoll.me/17436316
  2. Whenever there's an official release or kickstarter for an Eroge translation there's ALWAYS the question of whether there will be mosaics in the H-scenes or not. There have been various discussions about H-scenes in the past but surprisingly none/not many topics about the usage of mosaics. I'm all for No Mosaics, but it's not the end of the world if they are still there. People have complained about bad mosaics before but I don't really care any ones I particularly dislike off the top of my head. Be sure to vote in this strawpoll: https://www.strawpoll.me/17373350
  3. Hey, folks! This episode we talked a bit about our journeys into reading visual novels in Japanese with a guest who is no stranger to the medium, /u/Cornetto_man. Reading in Japanese is a pretty daunting task when starting from square one, and there's a lot of information about getting started out there. So of course, we decided to put our own thoughts to words on it. It's definitely not for everyone, and can feel like an uphill battle at times, but for fans of the medium, it can be incredibly freeing to open up the entire history of the medium, and also be able to stand waiting for the newest releases without needing to wait for a localization company to pick it up and eventually release a translation. If you're on the fence about getting started, maybe listening to us chat about it can help you make up your mind! As always, feel free to comment on the cast below. There’s also a list of Japanese resources at the bottom of this post: http://thebroadcast.club/2018/11/19/episode-13-untranslated/ Here's the YouTube version of the ep: Make sure to follow us on Twitter! https://twitter.com/VNBroadcastClub ----------------------------- Discussion Topics Have you read VNs in Japanese or are you interested to start? Was there a big untranslated title that you started learning for, or would consider starting to learn the language to read? We have a short list of resources linked in our blogpost. Are there any others that you've found helpful that you'd like to make others aware of?

  5. https://www.reddit.com/r/visualnovels/comments/9vbs7m/rvisualnovels_best_girl_30_nomination_phase_now/ Right now we're in the nomination phase, so if there's anyone in the current nomination bracket you don't see, feel free to nominate as many as you want. There is a separate bracket for characters that are only in untranslated visual novels. Nominations will last about 3-5 days. Rest of the rules are in the reddit topic.
  6. If you don't know what each tends to mean: moege - A general cutesty/light-hearted feel character oriented VN charage - Character oriented VN that is (much) less light hearted but while still generally avoiding darker themes nakige - A visual novel with the intention of making you cry nukige - A visual novel made for the sex. Usually lots of H-scenes and/or lots of little things made around the H-scenes So while with most VNs it seems to be generally agreed upon what kind of VN it is... I've noticed there are some oddballs that can have mixes of the above 4 types of genres while moege and charage in particular can be so similar that it can be hard to choose if it's one or the other. For example: Something like Wanko to Kurasou is probably a particularly weird case. It has a LOT of H-scenes but there are some very notable scenes that can make it nakige-ish but then there is a lot of light hearted character oriented moments that can make it seem like a moege. MajiKoi S is another kinda weird case since it also has a lot of H scenes to the point of some people claiming it is basically a nukige. But there's no denying stuff like the common routes are long enough to be moeges and the longer routes can be charage-ish. I would say even the original MajiKoi could be a moege or charage depending on what level of seriousness a VN needs to be considered a charage. Some ones that I feel like could also be considered a moege or charage depending on how serious/character development oriented a VN needs to be considered a charage: Edelweiss, Kira Kira, Deardrops, If My Heart Had Wings, Hoshimemo, apparently Koichoco or even Princess Evangile Hell even with stuff like KEY, especially the later titles, while they're generally considered nakige, they do have some really long light hearted content. And then of course there's the whole subjectivity of what KEY stuff doesn't make you cry but something else does? So in your guys' mind what criteria does it take to really differentiate between these 4 types of VNs (besides just going off what other people say)?
  7. If I have to be honest I'm not super into nukige. I've only read a few: Ultimate Boob Wars, Eroge H game, and Sweet Sweat in Summer
  8. So as said in the title, this list is more of a reflection of my top 40 favorite H-scenes cuz there's no way in hell I'm ranking all 300+ H scenes I've likely seen at this point in one list. If you want this style, go to this site - http://www.mmcafe.com/tiermaker/dbfz/index_customize.html. This'll probably the last time I post a public EOP tier list like this since the VNs are comin in slower. This month, I plan on starting on learning Japanese. So don't be surprised if a JOP tier list comes eventually, but not for a while.

    August announcements!

I'm guessing sprite taking a break from making VNs helped with the localization of Aoakana
  10. https://discord.gg/wqAcmHp This group is more about fans of the series or trying to get people interested in the series to read it and post their progress. We monitor and keep spoilers from separate channels for each of the VNs so don't be afraid of joining if you haven't finished S or A or even the original as spoiler channels for those will be kept separate.
  11. Interest in shilling a visual novel you really like for 2-3 minutes for our podcast, the Broadcast Club? So as some people know, I (along with Rallina and Nakenashi) co-host about visual novels podcast monthly-ish. We have a segment towards the end where a user can "shill" a VN you like for 2-3 minutes. Basically at the bare minimum you just briefly talk about what the visual novel is and why you like it. We're interested in getting some more shills lined up and ready. Other things to take note off if you want to contribute your own shill: Leave a 3-5 seconds of silence at the beginning and/or the end of the recording Please have the recording be a .wav file Make sure there's no background noise as you record It doesn't have to have an English Translation. But if it doesn't make sure you note that one doesn't exist (yet). You can't shill a VN that's already been done before which includes: -The House in Fata Morgana -MajiKoi -Yumina the Ethereal -Princess Evangile -Root Double -Tomoyo After -Little Busters -Sunrider -Umineko series -Symphonic Rain If you're interested PM me a 2-3 minute-ish .wav file and we can work with it. If you want an idea of how previous shill segments work you can go to our YouTube channel. Each video has one shill each and I put a timestamp in the description. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsAcGboxM5tSyYcU6Fu4nDw/videos ---- In addition if you're interested in being a guest for any of the following topics: Untranslated Visual Novels VNs catered to Females (Otome/BL) Art Length Settings Romance Quality Endings Overall Presentation Any other interesting topic you can think of Feel free to PM me and we'll consider you as a guest for a future ep!
  12. The Broadcast Club is, in fact, not dead and is still alive and kicking. Thanks to various IRL happenings, it took us way longer than we ever intended to produce this latest episode. We're endeavoring not to have a repeat going forward! Apologies for the half year wait since last episode. This week we talked about the rather sensitive topic of Music in visual novels. No guest this episode. As usual, you can find it on our blog. http://thebroadcast.club/2018/08/16/episode-11-music/ If you prefer to watch/listen on YouTube, we have a channel now! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BQNlbCE_XF8 Make sure to follow us on Twitter! https://twitter.com/VNBroadcastClub ----------------------------- Discussion Topics How do you all feel about music in VNs? Is the soundtrack important to you, or does it not make a huge difference? Are there any VNs that you feel had an especially effective soundtrack overall? What are some of your favorite tracks? Any least favorites?
