It's a real gut punch that Ginharu is ded ~80% of the way through. :(

    Availability of physical copies

No physical copies exist for any of their products yet. Aokana has physicals on the way from the Kickstarter campaign, not sure if those are going to be limited or if NekoNyan will have any to sell on the store later, and then Sanoba Witch was supposed to get a physical edition down the road.

    Aokana Mosaics

I mean, the reward for reading a great and entertaining story is that you enjoyed a great and entertaining story. Not that I disagree with you about mosaics (although have you seen Hello,Good-bye's demosaiced scenes? hoo boy they're a new level of bad) but most visual novels are just as much about the novel part as they are the visual aspect. The actually porn-focused games are basically their own genre, compared to your typical VN where the porn is a supplement to romance or mature themes.

Any news on Fureraba's extra Vita content?

Fureraba Vita content WHEN Sanoba Witch hardcopies WHEN well, the latter we might get more news about after Aokana's release this upcoming Friday
  5. A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Melty Moment was my second most anticipated title of their original crop, before I knew anything about Fureraba and how awesome it is. Sanoba Witch was the only title I'd already heard of. Shame about the mosaics, though. I disagree with the conclusions NN and Hooksoft draw that releasing a newer game will be a good idea in the long run. By what evidence do they believe Melty Moment will be a lackluster seller, and how will releasing a newer title first advantage them? Melty Moment isn't even that old -- it's the middle child of NN's original five -- and on paper it appears to have more in common with the wildly successful Fureraba (older plus by a Hooksoft subsidiary) and SW than it does the lackluster HGB. I would also think it's harder to sell the newest stuff first, and go back to sell old stuff later, than the other way around. Not that it can't be done but people get spoiled on the subtle improvements and quality-of-life additions that naturally occur over time. Expectations get raised and people get disappointed by the regression from newer to older. Additionally, it's not like any of Hooksoft's newer releases have been particularly highly rated or specifically requested by anyone here on the forums (or anywhere else for that matter), so there's no special demand to fulfill. What's the deal?
  6. That's really disappointing to hear, honestly. Edit: Specifically because I've been waiting for so long on physicals of Sanoba to start reading it.

I'm holding out hope they TL Ginharu, which already has its own request topic to boot, but yeah. We'll see about this after its JP release I suppose.
  8. If I didn't get all NN's news secondhand from Reddit, by golly I'd never know anything at all. I know it's relatively low-effort to just be posting all your news on Twitter/Facebook, because you gotta have an image and a format and might break something making an update, but it'd be nice if you dudes utilized your actual website more. Hopefully HGB sticks on Steam this time, grats. *ahem*

    Soi Kano ~Gyutto Dakishimete~

There's nothing nonvanilla about ahegao, that's just someone really enjoying themselves.
  10. Or at least have a Twitter feed embedded on the sidebar or something (like MangaGamer has on theirs) so the page doesn't look like it's been abandoned. Now that I have your attention... Suki to Suki English title when?

    December Announcements!

Now if only Yuzusoft would let us have uncensored images... Until then, SUMEE will remain numero uno in my heart. Bold strategy, picking up the games the biggest English communities on the web are clamoring for and all.

    Blog post 12.09.2018

Mind that a simple preorder campaign doesn't necessarily require NekoNyan to put up a Kickstarter for it and eat those fees. Kickstarter also doesn't protect the consumer at all if they don't deliver, since it's technically an investment platform. Kickstarter is a meme because it's usually used to fund the initial localization effort of licenses on top of a dozen other, only tangentially-related rewards. NN could just put it up directly on their website and take preorders like with Fureraba, except with a much longer lead-in period to allow time for sales numbers to settle and the logistics worked out, or through a company like Limited Run Games or the aforemented GMT Games which are much better suited platforms than Kickstarter for this type of focused campaign. I don't know what HGB's original engine looked like but, while it's a lot of work porting the game over to a new engine in terms of making everything look as it did in the original, there are some really unwieldy VN engines out there due to Japan being behind the curve in PC gaming and/or not originally expecting their products to be sold outside of Japan for a JP audience. I realized after looking through the old blogposts that we were promised bonus physical goods for Sanoba Witch too. So, to expand on my previous question, does the unexpected logistical difficulty and costs also mean we're not gonna get any of that? I'm personally fine with the barebones disc-in-a-DVD-case, as I prefer hardcopies simply because I'm against the "buying an access license" aspect of digital downloads on principle (regardless of all their benefits), but a lot of people want more than that and I sure wouldn't complain being upsold some cool swag myself.

I think the biggest problem with Kickstarter campaigns in the VN industry is inaccurate cost analysis. This inevitably leads to massive delays and possible unfulfillment of the offered rewards. I feel like it'll be much easier to accurately estimate costs and offer an appropriate price though when all you're doing is taking preorders for physical copies though, compared to the usual localization Kickstarter where the production or localization itself is at stake in addition to a dozen different reward tiers (digital vs physical copies, a variety of bonus goods, etc.). As long as you don't charge substantially more than the digital price... As a consumer, I suppose the main downside is I have to catch the preorder campaign if you're only producing a limited run; people who aren't already in the know won't be able to get hold of them. As a business, you can't peddle that stuff at conventions where people can be a bit more loose with their money than usual? *shrug* I'll certainly take it over no physical copies at all (looking at you Sekai Project), and I hate how MangaGamer handles it by only making hardcopies after they've already sold digital copies of the game in question to most of the people who would've bought one. It makes me hesitant to buy digital from MG because I want to hold out for a hardcopy but I don't know if it'll be popular enough to get one and if it is, how long will I have to wait. I'm not buying the same game multiple times either. I'd almost rather be given a hard NO so I'm not agonizing over exactly when to give up on the prospect of a hardcopy and give into buying digital. Almost. So, does this mean we're not getting the promised physicals for Sanoba Witch anytime soon? And what is the fate of HGB? Will it still be released as planned and it's simply going to not be on Steam (assuming Valve remains radio silent as always rather than actually fixing their problems and treating their business partners and customers with a shred of respect)? I always buy direct myself, but I feel bad for NekoNyan and all the other businesses affected by Valve's BS because I can only imagine the impact it has losing the visibility of not being on the Steam storefront. (I hope they see the error of their ways and resolve the issue before January 25, but LOL.) The silver lining for you guys specifically is that you've aggressively put your games up on every storefront possible, so it's not like you're totally dead in the water like, say, Sol Press was with Newrin. Good decision there for sure.
  15. I meant I want physicals in the Denpasoft store where I can actually buy them, not literally waiting for my shipment to arrive although I've heard some people actually are still waiting for some of their Kickstarter rewards. (Three years, ridiculous. And I feel bad for anyone who was ever hoping for the Vita port.) I wasn't really a part of the VN community back then and I believe they're not even 18+ copies anyway. I want an 18+ hardcopy but it ain't ever happening at this point. I like hardcopies of stuff, nevermind their ridiculous redownload policy since they changed their store makes it hard for me to trust them with my money.
  16. don't mind me just waiting on Grisaia physicals, oh wait Sekai just gave those licenses back to Frontwing so now NEVER EVER I GUESS edit: without shelling out a billion $$$ for the Complete Box, I just want a regular hardcopy of Fruit But Sanoba Witch interests me enough that I'll eventually settle for a digital copy, pending the timeframe and details of physicals. The sooner the better, but for the time being I'm more concerned about the Fureraba fandisc. *AHEM*

    Anyone playing any RPGs?

All SMT games are standalone, that aren't direct sequels (like SMT4 and 4A), but Persona 3 kinda sets the modern standard for game mechanics around which P4 and P5 refine. P3 suffers from having multiple versions which all lack in their own ways (Portable gives full party control but obviously suffers in the gfx/audio dept.) but otherwise is every bit as good as P4 Golden and P5. Going back to the P2 duology from there, though they're good in their own way, is a bit more of a transition if you're coming from P5 (or P4G) and wanted more of the same. Persona 5 also sorta absorbs a bunch of mechanics from the main SMT series, so you could also branch into the main series from there.
  18. JRPGs are my jam. From there, it's not really a wonder how I got caught up in anime subculture and ended up places like here.

    Aokana....why so much hype?

I'm certainly not the best person to ask, since Aokana doesn't particularly interest me either, but I'm pretty sure it's mostly a combination of the game simply being extremely competent and the so-called translation curse that has bitten multiple would-be fan translators of it in the past.

    August announcements!

Did we the people ever get any demosaiced comparisons for Sanoba Witch to make that determination? I don't believe we did, so I certainly can't say how bad it looks. It'd be best to have the option, like MG recently patched in for Evenicle, and I don't like simply being told "trust us" and forced to have mosaics when my opinion may well differ on how acceptable the uncensored images are. But I'm sure they NN has their reasons and all I can do is voice my displeasure so they're more likely to deliver the (uncensored) goods in the future, failing direct requirements from the parent developer like Sprite with Aokana. I'm waiting on physical copies for SW anyway.
